I realize that SSE2 builds exclude several AMD users from using these builds since some older AMD chips don’t have SSE2. So I have made an SSE build so most modern processors should be able to run it.

I thought a build was due especially since things are picking up in the CVS since the Blender Conference finished. As usual it’s an SSE2 optimized build. If you would like a non optimized build just say the word!

We’ve posted an SSE2 optimized build of the latest Blender release, 2.42a, for Windows. This type of optimization requires a CPU with SSE2 support. You can find out if your CPU does by taking a look at this list. Renders using SSE2 optimizations usually render ~40% faster than the standard 2.42a release.

This new build was done to show off the new Irregular Shadow Buffers as well as the additional Halfway Average trick.
