February Release (Carnaval - Karni)
February 12th, 2007 by
Eugene (etr9j)
Look out everyone, we are on the verge of the next great Blender release.
After the CVS freeze shortly after our last report, the CVS has been filled everyday with bug fixes. The freeze means that nothing new should be added, but there are on occasion a few commits that are just a little more than bug fixes.

Thanks to Basse for making this build Splash … here is the splash for February 2007.
There are a couple of new things in these builds, but right now the developers are hitting hard on the source to fix every Bug reported so far and to get the new Website up.
Well, but not going into alot of detail, here are the builds:
| Windows (MD5) |
Mac OS X - PPC (MD5) |
Mac OS X - Intel (MD5) |
Linux (MD5) |
| Normal Debug Optim. SSE Optim. SSE2 |
Normal (py 2.3) Normal (py 2.4) Normal (py 2.4 - ports) Normal (py 2.5) Debug (py 2.3) Debug (py 2.4) Debug (py 2.5) |

– The BlenderBuilds Team –
NOTE 1: The source package we used can be found here as well as the MD5 Checksum.
NOTE 2: Remember that this is not a build endorsed by the Blender Foundation, if you found a bug in it please test it with the official release before doing a bug report, else make a bug report using a debug binary build. But if you do find something wrong with any of the builds, let us know so we can fix it ASAP.

Why not game engine?
February 13th, 2007 at 12:44
To Pitel:
Game Engine should be enabled, just not the BlenderPlayer.

No. Linux SSE build, when i press [P], it says: “Game engine is disabled in this release!”.

To Pitel:
I will look into it.

Yo, thanks. Nice to try out ffmpeg on PC. Works well apart from rendering output, gets a few seconds into my film then blender bombs with an error to do with avcodec.dll.
February 17th, 2007 at 17:36
@mrBen
Could you give me the exact error?
February 17th, 2007 at 21:31
To Pitel:
The Game Engine was enabled by default in the source, but someone changed it lately, so I will have to recompile the source forcing it.
Will post an update soon.

Thanks Rui, the GE you are referring to… is it the one that’s part of Blender used for doing physics??? Or the ‘blenderplayer’ thingy found inside the Blender folder?

To Dude man:
.
Both.

Cool! I am on Intel OS X, does this release support Python 2.4? I am using the fink install of python 2.4.
How can I tell Blender to use that version instead of the default Apple 2.3 version?
Thanks!

Hey, Rui! Remember me? (heart_of_vvolverine if you haven’t guessed)
Long time no see…
P.S.: i’ve joined the open-source community myself (ubuntu, blender etc)

What about the optimized builds? I would like to use a build for Macintosh, optimized for the G4 processor… Is it possible? Thanks!
March 6th, 2007 at 16:14
To Victor:
They should be optimized by default.
To Dread Knight:
Hey there, saw that you were also MIA in Shards of Asgard …

Weird, when running the draw benchmark on an Intel core duo 2 I get 2738(ish+- 20) iterations in the draw benchmark, and when I run the official version it’s around the same values… shows me for using bloatware (winXP), of course this could just be a pebkac(Problem Exists Between Keyboard And Chair)
On OSX with my G4 however there’s a factor 2 in speed increase between the official and optimized build, well worth it: thanks blenderbuilds team!.

Hm, the splash already shows an image for a build dated March 11th, but no new build in sight… When is it gonna be there?
Many Greets

It seems it is! Just change the date in the filename… I’m currently downloading http://mirror.blenderbuilds.com/windows/20070311_sse2.zip
But maybe there’s a good reason they haven’t put it up yet…
March 20th, 2007 at 13:00
cool, thx for the hint! But yeah, they may have their reasons…

Hi guys, sorry for the delay, all builds are up and a new post was created.
Splash is also fixed.
