Official Blender Foundation Blender 2.43 RC2
January 23rd, 2007 by
Rui Campos (rcas)
Yes, that’s right, the Official 2.43 Release Candidate 2 is out.
And the Release Log is getting bigger.
Also take a look at what happened since the release of 2.42a:
- From 2.42a to end of September
- During October
- November changes
- December and January changes till CVS Freezed
As usual, test it as much as possible and use the following guidelines:
If you do find a bug please head over to the Blender Bug Tracker and see if someone else has already reported it.
If not, login (or register if you haven’t yet) and post a new item on the tracker.
When reporting a bug:
- Verify its a Bug:
- Is it something that is supposed and intended to work ? (e.g. not a feature request)
- Can you repeat it consistantly ?
- Check all steps you did to get the bug, can steps be omitted ?
- Always verify it with the previous & official release of Blender and mention how it went.
- If possible, check on another computer.
- When Reporting:
- Make sure you are logged in to the site, anonymous reporting should be disabled.
- Always mention your OS version, 3D card type and Blender version.
- If it is an OpenGL or gfx related: post in the OpenGL tracker.
- Only provide reports with instructions on how to reproduce the error.
- Always upload a .blend file containing the problem.
Download the builds from the official Foundation download page.
Have fun with this RC2.

Will the official Windows Blender build include FFMPEG? Or is this something the community will have to compile in by itself?
If it will not, what are the reasons for this? Copyright controversy? Instability? Rapidly changing API?

To Myster_EE:
I’m not sure, I was thinking it was going to make it into the final release.
I will talk to Eugene to see if he knows more about it.

(Repeated)
Hey Rui,
When is the Linux optimized CPU ports coming out?!
Can you teach us (i.e. write a step-by-step) how to compile Blender in GNU/Linux?
Do I just need GCC? And what is this ‘bmake’ thing I see in the official blender folder? Do I need other things beside GCC to compile Blender?
It would be great if you could write up a Compiling Blender Tutorial, that we we can learn, tinker around, and make patches.
Also, how do you apply patches…
…Sorry for so many (seemingly simple) questions, but many of us are very passionate about blender, but we’re still NOOBS in the world of programming!
Thanks!

Hi Anxious Linux user:
, I always get notified.
No need to double post
I will post a “how I build” for the linux builds. I just need a bit of time and finding out what is going wrong with the chroot.
Once I get the chroot working it should be as easy as these steps:
1. Download chroot.
2. Extract chroot to directory.
3. Run under sudo or root : chroot [directory where the chroot was extracted] .
4. Run the script buildBlender.sh .
5. Answer a few questions.
6. Grab the package and use it.
So, just bear with me for a while longer, I’m doing my best to get everything running.

I have noticed that I select “HuffYUV” for Video, and “PCM” for Audio, and when I open the AVI file in VirtualDub, it tells me it’s something else….. (Whatever it is, it’s variable bit-rate) (I’m not with my usual machine, so I can’t test it right now…..)
Can you do just plain uncompressed WAV?

To Myster_EE:
You should make a Bug Report with it. I really can’t help you on that.
By the way, what OS ? Windows ?

I am running 243blender on mandriva 2006. The lights are creating circles of diminishing intensity on mesh planes in the rendered image. I have not had this problem with win98,200,xp systems. Gnome seems to work fine.I am willing to do some footwork but I do not know where to start…hardware,OGL,glibc. 243 is also creating artifacts in the interface…small leftover squares from popup menues. Otherwise I think the linux ver is less prone to crashing.I am using Blender to make plats and persp picts for a house remodel and landscaping project so I am weighing crashing repetedly in windows vers low render quality in linux… Ps I have purchased the books and my life has been greatly improved by the blender comunities work. I have writen a small script to calc dist along walls and can code in c but I am still not understanding the lay of the land arch wise.pps if I am in the wrong place to ask this question please help me to find the correct venue.

Hi eric:
You should point this out in the Bug Tracker or drop by irc at irc.freenode.org , channel #blendercoders and ask for help on this.
I would say for you to wait 4 more days and test 2.44, it shall be released by then. If it doesn’t work ok I will point you to the new Bug-Tracker and some additional resources.
Hope I was able to help out.

it is a great phsychological boost to be resoponded to.Thanxs
yet I have moved on a bit and have a new problem.I may look into the solution to the pevious question but I think that I would like to get into a working setup as fast as possible.NEW PROB…(I will test the new release today but I am concerned that the same prob may be there) I am now using Debian latest iso.It runs good. Gnome runs fine but I have yet to be sure of the X chipset driver. Next I run blender the command prompt in Bash says can’t find libstdc++.so.5 no such file or dir. I can’t find libstdc++.so.5 at GNU or Debian. Do I need to have this lib somewhere …I do not know whether I need to do something other than cp the lib to an appropriet dir.the Debian distro has c++.6 sorry I did not provide the whole name from from synaptic

Hi uhhhh now I understand what IRC “is”…
I will try to use it but so far no luck with finding a chat program. I am using XP for surfing.
Please do not help me with the IRC unless your compelled
thanxs Eric
P.S. also went to GNU and subscribed to one of the python dev mail lists
to see if some one can find libstdc++.so.5
May 17th, 2007 at 22:28
I found the oldstable libc2.3.2
should I attempt to have both libs available or move to a prev ver of Debian…I am going to get that (the prev ver) now.
Eric

To eric:
libstdc++.so.5 is pretty common, just browse google for it and .deb .
Irc is quite old and there are alot of applications to access it, you can use mirc on windows and xirc or gaim in linux.

thanks
I am remis as I have indeed found the information at the debian web site but I did not see the libc5 in the oldlibs section of synaptic though I did install all the libs I saw that looked remotely close …I will look again …I am not on line where I do my computer work. If the older lib is not there I may need to install using a sarge pkg and I do not know if this will be possible
if there is a better place for me to ask these questions let me know.
I am sure the sarg compatibility was covered in something I read but I have difficulty finding the pertinant info from the Debian web site.

what flaver and ver of linux are you using
May 18th, 2007 at 20:54
I have been to the site that you recomended but was ignored.stivis recomended that I look for a file which I was unable to find and atont indicated that the libstdc++.so.5 was not needed
May 19th, 2007 at 0:12
We just used it in TOSMI, where we used Ubuntu Feisty Fawn.
I use it in Ubuntu Edgy and Ubuntu Dapper.
So, if you use any flavor of Ubuntu it should work.
