Windows: November 15th 2006 CVS Optimized Build
November 15th, 2006 by

Hey everyone, after talking it over with Rui, I thought a weekly build of the CVS would be nice to have. As usual, this is an SSE2 optimized build. Since my project files are set to SSE2 already, it’s just a few clicks to get a build happening and post.
*Note: Added an SSE build which should work on the Athlon XPs.
You can find the SSE2 (Intel processors, and latest Athlons) build here, and the SSE (Athlon XPs) build here. Also, here is a non-optimized 11/16/06 build (new compo nodes like chromakey!) I’ll let Rui’s monthly report go over all the details, but I’ll mention 3 things that have happened:
- Several sculpt tool fixes.
- Next level of Proxy support for animation: Proxy for duplicated groups. Usage; select group, alt+ctrl+p, pick an object you want to proxify.
- Script: UV Export
* SVG export support
* Faster tga export

thanks but where is the link for download?

The link for sse2 is here :http://www.blenderbuilds.com/bbuilds_download/win_20061114_sse2.zip
And : “If you don’t have an SSE2 CPU (older Athlons), just say the word and I will build one for you! ”
So please can you make a build for older Athlon
Thanks in advance !

thanks!

Yes! could you make some builds for really old athlons (like the original athlon cpu, just 3dnow and mmx). Your builds are the first ones that I’ve tried(including my own using gcc and scons) that are compatible with Yafray. I found out that you must use the same compiler for Yafray to work without the need to send it to xml first.

Hey guys, I’m glad to see people are actually using/wanting these builds. As for building for older Athlons, I can get to it tonight (EST) when I get home from work, and I’ll add the link to this post. Now that I know there is a demand for the older Athlon builds I’ll now always do both when I post from now on!

Yes there is still demand for older athlon builds. Thanks for going through the extra trouble.

Hey Eugene, wonderfull work. Could you make a build for athlon xp? Thanks for your work!

@kenjy
The SSE build I link to in the above post is the Athlon XP build. Since I use MSVC to compile, the optimizations are a bit more general (though I think just a good), so with MSVC you won’t find processor specific optimizations.

Hi Eugene, Thanks for your response to my comment earlier but I am still having a problem. I am using an original Athlon(circa 1999 model) and it doesn’t support any sse optimizations. If I try to run one of the sse builds it kills Blender. As I noted in my last post that I have created my own builds using gcc and scons (using Mike Pan’s excellent tutorial)but Yafray doesn’t work correctly(note:it does but you have to send it to XML first which takes quite a bit longer to render). Yafray must be built using the same compiler(apparently MSVC)because your builds seem to work. Your Halloween basic non sse build works great on my computer and I guess what I’m asking is that could you put a Windows non sse optimized build up every once in awhile for the very few of us with ancient computers. Thanks for your time.

@Harry M
Wish granted! Also, the 11/16 build has some new matte compositor nodes!

Great work folks!

@All
After reading about Harry M’s need for a different building method to get the job done, I thought I would mention Mike Pan’s Scons build tutorial ( http://mpan3.homeip.net/sub.php?mid=resources&fid=how.txt ) and mine for MSVC 8 ( http://www.geneome.net/index.php/blender-tutorials/building-blender-with-msvc ).
