November Release (Halloween)
November 7th, 2006 by
Rui Campos (rcas)
Hi guys, we promised a CVS Build per month and so its time for the November Build.
And with this new build we added some goodies…

Basically, we now sport our own splash, so you will always know if it is an official Blender Foundation Build or one of our own Builds. There is some effort being put into adding more info on the build itself (optimized or not…), but this will come in time as we also grow as a team and website.
The other goodie is a Mac OS X Intel binary. We have a new member on the Team, Timothy Kanters and he will be building the binary for all you guys with new Macs.
This build was some what delayed do to the following major additions:
- Sculpt Mode
- New stuff in Fluids Simulation
- Much more ….
You can read my CVS report at BlenderNation for most of the changes that happened in the past Month of October.
I want to thank the Team for building these binaries in such a short notice (their are also given credit on the Splash) :
- Windows - Eugene Reilly
- Mac OS X PowerPC - Jonathan Ferguson
- Mac OS X Intel - Timothy Kanters
As an incentive, Jonathan Ferguson has a daily build system working for Mac OS X and Windows at his website, so, if you are inpatient you might want to check some of his builds too.
But I won’t bother you with any additional details, here are the links:
- Linux i586
- Linux i586 - debug version
- Linux Pentium 4 - SSE2 optimization
- Linux Athlon XP - 3D!Now optimization
- Linux Centrino - SSE2 optimization
- Linux Core (2) Duo - SSE3 optimization
- Linux AMD64 (32 bits compile) - SSE2 optimization
- Linux libraries
- FFMPEG (.deb)
- X264 (.deb)
- libraw1394
- Linux development libraries
If you have trouble with the above builds, we also have builds dated 1st of November without the Sculpt Mode tool:
Have fun with the latest CVS, Blender Development Version.
NOTE: Timothy just told me that by default all Mac OS X Intel builds have SSE2 enabled, which is really cool, this way you can improve your speed in the Core (2) Duos.
PS: Remember that this is not a build endorsed by the Blender Foundation, if you found a bug in it please test it with the official release before doing a bug report, else make a bug report using a debug binary build. But if you do find something wrong with any of the builds, let us know so we can fix it ASAP.

./blender: error while loading shared libraries: libdc1394_control.so.13: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
Same error as previous build… can you help me? (Using Athlon XP build, Fedora Core 5)
November 7th, 2006 at 22:59
First, thanks, those builds are highly stable and very faster than previous releases.
Pitel, install suport for firewire on your system and all will do well, otherwise, I sugest you (Any)ubuntu, distro, with their debian and apt-get simple and affordable packages.

Pitel, you have to install ffmpeg on your system and dc1394 package.
I use Ubuntu, so this is on the repository.
But if you don’t find the lib I can pack the libs you are missing into a tar.gz file and have that on the server too.
Just let me know how it turns out
.
November 8th, 2006 at 0:31
Very nice - I would definitely like to know how things are being optimized - and please an SSE3 version - you can squeeze more out like that, right? Or how about an AMD64 version…
Is there hand-optimized assembly being done for these builds?
What compiler is being used, etc…
November 8th, 2006 at 0:35
To Alan: What Platform ?
In Linux I issue my optimizations to scons, which uses this when calling gcc compiler.
And in the Linux version you also have SSE3 for Core Duo and AMD64 (32 bits) since I don’t own a 64 Bit CPU.
November 8th, 2006 at 0:55
Ohhh, excuse-me depending on the system, the errors are different, Ubuntu gives the error on another package, wich I upload to my server. Rui Campos is definetly right, thanks. At least I tried to help (any)ubuntu users.
Go for right dc1394 is on the repository.I using P4 Dual Core SSE2.
November 8th, 2006 at 0:59
I, used the two helps on my Kubuntu, thanks Ivan, thanks Rui Campos.
November 8th, 2006 at 1:28
Sure, no problem.
I also added my ffmpeg and x264 libs to the article.
This way it can’t really complain about ffmpeg or x264.

November 8th, 2006 at 1:32
Just get the libraries I mentioned for your own platform and it shouldn’t complaint.
It is compiled as Dynamic, so it should adjust itself to the libs in your system, as long as the major version is the same. Or a new version is present that is compatible with the previous version.

As I expected, everyone that works with open source software is better receptive, give always the right information and helps everyone. Rui Campos, I do not wanto to flood the site, I will not post again here for now, but I will express my gratitude for your work and all of the work that has been done and the efforts to Blender for love.
People like you and all of the community, artists, developers, critics, fãs and users turns Blender on a extremely powerfull software.
Like I always say.
Free yourself and Barbarize, Blenderize.
Thank you.
November 8th, 2006 at 2:04
@Ivan: No worries, post whatever you feel needs to be posted about. This is supposed to be a source of information.
Any good information is always welcome.
And thanks for the compliments, I’m flattered
.
But I just provide part of it, the remaining is done by the excelent team that puts up with me and does nice builds for all other platforms too.
They are my personal heroes for helping me accomplish this too.
November 8th, 2006 at 8:25
Ok, the trick was i installing libdc1394 and then ln -s libdc1394.so.20 libdc1394_control.so.13
Everything seems to be running now. Thx for help
November 8th, 2006 at 8:41
I seem to be having problems loading .ttf fonts in this build as well as in the standard release. Anyone know what the problem is?
November 8th, 2006 at 11:58
To Pitel: Great.
To Andries:
What Operating System ?
Have you tried loading some other fonts, available online ?
Is it just .ttf files ?
Can you check if Blender is outputting an error to the Console ?
November 8th, 2006 at 17:53
Can anybody give me a link to a simple step by step process of connecting to a verse server? Maybe I’m not understanding correctly, but is there some central server we can connect to and go into projects of other people who are connected?
November 8th, 2006 at 19:42
I have a problem, I compile the cvs last night… trying to use the sculpt mode not work. (sure, a cube subdivided a couple of times)
LeftClic on the mesh, and wow… not work, the mesh appear with no one modification.
I remember so, last night installa my ati fglrx drivers, games work fine, and others apps.
But blender not! (issue with driver is known for all), not a big deal only zoom appear slow.
But the sculpt mode not work, that surprise me.
Console with -d option:
madnux@azkroix:~/lin_p4_20061106_sse2/install/linux2$ ./blender -d -w
guessing ‘./blender’ == ‘/home/madnux/lin_p4_20061106_sse2/install/linux2/./blender’
Blender V 2.42
argv[0] = ./blender
argv[1] = -d
argv[2] = -w
Compiled with Python version 2.4.

November 8th, 2006 at 22:05
hello, im on ubuntu drapper drake
and install the ffmpeg and libdc1394
with:
Linux AMD64
Linux i586
Linux Athlon XP
compiled blendr versions but it have
same error.
and write this error in console:
error while loading shared libraries: libxvidcore.so.4: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
u.i.
i saw the 10. Rui Campos (rcas) response it have libxvidcore4 dependencies for ffmepg but for me not, i dont know why
November 9th, 2006 at 0:47
To blazer003: http://www.blendernation.com/2006/11/07/october-cvs-report-sculpt-mode-fluids-and-much-more/
I explain a bit there.
To madman: Is this happening in your own build, or one of our builds ?
To kxs: I have a more recent version of it on my system due to Kino and haven’t noticed it, but here is a link to it now, here you have it http://www.blenderbuilds.com/bbuilds_download/libs/libraw1394.so.8.tar.gz
To icd: I put my ffmpeg compile libs online too, you have to replace them. You have to install libxvidcore. Do you have Universe and Multiverse enabled on your repositories ?
November 9th, 2006 at 1:00
To all ubuntu dapper linux users, I posted the libs in deb format.
I had to recompile ffmpeg, because the ffmpeg that comes with ubuntu doesn’t have x264 neither xvid, so I had to make a new one.
I will try to make it statically linked in the next build.
– Rui –
November 9th, 2006 at 1:06
To madman, you have something new in the Mesh panel, it says Multires, you have to press it to enable Sculpt mode.
Its a bit hidden, but this is going to be changed for the release, Ton pointed out how it should work, so it was more obvious.
November 9th, 2006 at 7:26
To Rui Campos (rcas),
My problem it’s in my compilation and your compilation.
I have:
* P4 HT 3.0 ghz
* 512 MB Ram
* Kubuntu Dapper 6.06
* xorg-fglrx driver working on ATI Radeon 9250 AGP 128 MB VRAM. Just run fine in games and other 3d aplications on linux. But in blender for linux no.
I see now “Multires”, activated!
but still not working (maybe I make something wrong).
I see in the console (running blender under -d parameter) this message:
“GL error: invalid operation”
When I click the mesh for sculpting.
ps.
, but the last cvs (with sculpt) not work using wine.
Just for the records, I use blender 2.42a for windows with wine, and blender run fast and smoothly on linux
November 9th, 2006 at 12:35
To madman: It might have to do with your gfx drivers, since it works for me.
But try downloading the debug build and press the -d.
If it still doesn’t give you something more about try installing “gdb”.
After you have installed it, open a console / terminal and go the folder you have the blender binary, and run the following:
$ gdb ./blender
$ run -d
First command issues gdb to initiate the blender binary, the second command starts blender in full debug. Also, use the debug version I built for this.
Then see if it outputs a function where it is giving the error.
– Rui –
PS: this is still CVS, so, bugs are expected. But with these tests they can be fixed long before the RC releases come out.
November 9th, 2006 at 14:05
Im about to embark of a short film making journey and want to squeeze the most out of blender, I was just about to check out from CVS when I came across this site. Excellent work and thanks alot for the builds.
November 9th, 2006 at 14:15
Rui Campos (rcas): the ffmpeg is look like same as before http://www.blenderbuilds.com/bbuilds_download/libs/ffmpeg.tar.gz
it havent xvid or i miss someting?
November 9th, 2006 at 16:03
To icd: I guess I explained it wrong. It is compiled with xvid and x264 support, but you need to install xvid and x264 from the default repository.
Else I can compile with the default ffmpeg that comes with Ubuntu, but then you won’t be able to save your videos in XVid nor in x264 formats.
November 9th, 2006 at 16:04
To Larry Weya: Glad we could be of service to you. When you have something cool to report on the short film, let us know.
To icd: I will see if I can compile xvid and x264 statically into ffmpeg.
November 9th, 2006 at 17:42
To Rui Campos (rcas):
yes - i checked all universe and multiverse.
libxvidcore4 -installed with synaptic
libraw1394.so.8 -donloaded here:
http://blenderbuilds.com/bbuilds_download/libs/libraw1394.so.8.tar.gz
and put in usr/lib
libfaac - installed with synaptic
libfaad -installed with synaptic
liblame0 -installed with synepatc
and its works for me
thanx
November 9th, 2006 at 18:01
To icd: Glad I could help you get it working.
I’m adding all of this to my notes. Linux is the most complicated architecture to build for, specially if it is for using in different distributions, so I need to revise things and get a better release next month.
This way you guys can just use it out of the box.
November 9th, 2006 at 19:01
but in on the console have an error message i think is is related wth python:
Compiled with Python version 2.4.
Checking for installed Python… got it!
Ignoring Xlib error: error code 169 request code 147
November 9th, 2006 at 19:10
To icd: I think that has to do with Tablet support. Its just a debug print as far as I’m aware of, so just ignore it for now.
November 10th, 2006 at 0:19
I’m on Ubuntu, and I downloaded a couple of these packages, none work. I double click on the “blender” item and it does nothing. Is there a need to actually “install” it? Because I don’t have to on the normal builds.
November 10th, 2006 at 0:30
To Saxofoner: The file is a tar.gz, its like a zip file, you have to extract the content to a folder, go to that folder and double click blender to run it.
November 10th, 2006 at 0:32
I did that. I did the same thing I do with any other blender build. It just didn’t work this time.
November 10th, 2006 at 0:57
To Saxofoner: This means you are missing a dependency, so, you will have to open a console, go to the blender binary folder and just run ./blender and see what he says.
November 10th, 2006 at 1:00
Oh, thanks. It’s missing librawl something or other.
November 10th, 2006 at 1:14
To Saxofoner: Thats the one posted in the article http://blenderbuilds.com/bbuilds_download/libs/libraw1394.so.8.tar.gz .
Download it and run the following in the directory you extract the lib:
$ sudo mv ./libraw1394.so.8 /usr/lib/
Should do the trick
.
November 10th, 2006 at 3:30
Alright, thank you very much. Using Ubuntu for 3-4 months, and I’m STILL a newb…. Thanks a lot.
November 10th, 2006 at 11:52
To Saxofoner: No worries. Anything you need to get the builds running, just poke me on it.
November 10th, 2006 at 16:23
What about a 2.42a optimized version for Linux?
Panzer
November 10th, 2006 at 16:56
To Panzer: Already did that, check here http://ruicampos.com/fl_tmp/debian/ubuntu-dapper/2.42a/ .
November 10th, 2006 at 19:12
Thanks.
Panzer
November 11th, 2006 at 11:00
Thanks heaps for these builds!
I’m running Ubuntu Edgy. This build (and the one from last month) don’t load, saying:
./blender: error while loading shared libraries: libgettextlib-0.14.5.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
I have gettext, but it’s version 0.15. I’ll post again if I find a solution.
Cheers,
Alex
November 11th, 2006 at 12:18
Ah, found it (thanks, Pitel!):
cd /usr/lib/
sudo ln -s libgettextlib-0.15.so libgettextlib-0.14.5.so
sudo ln -s libgettextsrc-0.15.so libgettextsrc-0.14.5.so
Cheers,
Alex
November 12th, 2006 at 13:14
To Alex: Was going to point that, but seems like you found it already.
November 19th, 2006 at 16:58
When’s the next release coming out? I’ve just heard that the new cvs has multiple UV-coords enabled. This is something I’ve been waiting for a long time, and was about to edit 2 meshes in parallel with my latest work, today, but I’m thinking of putting that on hold and waiting for the next release.
By the way, Halloween had problems with the Texture Baker script. It always resulted in a “Active object is not a mesh or has no UV coords” error message.
November 20th, 2006 at 1:33
To Dan W:
I think multiple UVs aren’t yet on CVS, not sure though, have to talk to Brecht to really know about this.
The second, that’s something we can’t really control, the code of the scripts,
, but you are welcome to submit a bug report on it at the following address:
http://projects.blender.org/tracker/?atid=125&group_id=9&func=browse
Make sure you register first.
– Rui –
November 20th, 2006 at 15:47
Thanks. I really hope the multi-UV’s come out soon. But another feature that seems promising is render baking. Means I can bake with lights at infinity, like “sun” lights? If so, that will make true PRT baking possible. I’m very excited about the stuff coming out. Thanks for making early releases available.
November 20th, 2006 at 16:31
To Dan W:
With development builds we all win. More people test it, so, more bugs are reported and fixed, this means more stability. And also eases people introduction to the new features.
